WordPress 4.4 is released and ready, are you? Soon you will see that Update button again asking you to upgrade your site.
This update promises to have a number of updates and additions to it function and appearance. This can be good and bad at the same time. Considering the variety of Themes and Plugins being used today, you really want to be sure your site is ready for the latest version of WordPress.
It’s a really good idea that you every once in a while check on your website to make sure everything is still working the way it should.
Take the time and review all your pages and post for any changes or errors. You want to make sure all the images are showing up and that all your links still work. Be on the look out for any 404 errors or incorrect links.
Its hard to keep up with everything and things do change or are deleted which can cause empty spaces on your page where a photo use to be and links can be moved or deleted as well.
How we Search the web continues to change and the impact of those changes are becoming more and more visible to customers and businesses.
It’s not really important what Search Engine you use to find what it is you want on the web but understand each one is trying to do better and present the best results it can based on are the various ways you request it.
The amount of new and old information a Search Engine has to process, sort, store and catalog is a huge amount. It is unlike a local phone book, it is a World Wide Database of information and links. News pages are created every second in huge numbers.
If you have a WordPress Website, one of the choices you have is if you would like to allow comments on your Blog.
Enabling comments is something you really want to think over. Many of the comments you will get will be spam, spam and more spam.
You can turn on comments at anytime but it will take time to build up your users so you can minimize the amount of unwanted comments.
If you can get people to participate that’s great but it will not happen by itself. You need to make it happen. This means you will have to monitor, manage and respond to the comments people post on your blog. Continue reading
More and more people are taking an interest in WordPress and want to know more.
I typically tutor and train people on how to use WordPress for the website they have for their business on how to do this or that or what is this what is that etc.
Most of my clients have some idea of what they are looking at and what WordPress can do and what they have and what they need/want to change or fix. Simple enough and some people just need a little help, I understand.
The term Responsive comes up more and more lately when it comes to designing a website, theme or template.
To most the term is confusing and the topic is muddy. Creating a website that is responsive takes a bit of planning and understanding. Not too long ago the term mobile ready was being tossed around quite a bit as well along with the term mobile app. Each of these terms mean something different and produce different out comes.
Having a website that is responsive means simply this. Your website is intentionally designed, programmed and organized so that the presentation, orientation delivery of each page and or section of your website is easily view-able and accessible equally on all devices from desktop computers to mobile phones and any other device that is capable of viewing internet content without having to provide multiple versions of the website itself or without having to zoom, pinch or scroll horizontally.
WordPress 4.1.1 is the latest version and things are looking good. Get your Theme up to date and check all your Plugins to make certain everything is running smoothly.
Google wants your site to be optimized and formatted so that it works on both the PC and Devices such as tablets and mobile phones. This can be a challenge if you don’t understand what is involved and what options you may have to accommodate each one effectively.
With the introduction of advanced CSS options, Microdata and SEO best practices you can easily mess things up and not even know it until much later.
You can find a lot of help online but you can also find a great deal of bad information as well so beware. The best thing to do is talk to someone that works with WordPress and has experience and understanding of what it can really do and what is best avoided.
